The largest bears are found on the west coast of British Columbia and in Alaska, and on offshore islands along the coast of Alaska... some of the largest are the Kodiak:

  •  Kodiak bears can grow to 10 feet long and weigh over 1,000 lbs 

    •  Males average over 300 kg (660 lbs) 

    •  Females can be over 200 kg (440 lbs)

According to the Grizzly/Brown Bear Facts web-site: 

  •  Kodiak bears generally rely on the same types of food as grizzlies, with one addition 

  •  These coastal areas are rich in salmon, so living in coastal areas provides these bears with a rich supply of protein
