  •  Black Bears usually have a brownish muzzle

  •  Sometimes they have a white "V" on their neck
or  a white patch below their throat or chest

Black is the Most Common Colour of Black Bear

  ...But, They Aren't Always!

In BC's interior there are more brown-coloured Black Bears

But on the coast, they're all black

Other Common Colours of Black Bears

In BC you can find blonde and cinnamon (usually in dry areas)

A blue phase, or Glacier Bear, is sometimes seen in the extreme northwest corner of B.C.

There is a white-coloured morph, called the Kermode or Spirit Bear that is found most often on the north-central coast and Queen Charlotte Islands

People sometimes mistake these bears for albinos, but they are actually a white-coloured phase of the Black Bear species

Any of these colours may occur in one litter, but generally all cubs in a litter are the same colour as their mother
