The Black Bear (Ursus americanus) is the smallest and most widely distributed member of the bear family found in North America:

  • There are between 120,000 and 160,000 Black Bears in British Columbia and about one quarter of all black bears live in Canada! 

In 1870 there were about 80,000 black bears in B.C.
