There are two types of bears in British Columbia and they live from the mountain regions to the ocean shores...

  •  Black Bear prefer low-lying forested areas, like where people live

    •  But they also inhabit almost all areas of BC except for the very high alpine areas

    • Kermode bears are found in the northwest coast areas of BC like Terrace, Stewart and Princess Royal Island

    • Glacier Bears are found only around Stewart and the inland areas east of there

  •  Grizzlies, on the other hand, usually live in the higher mountain areas, including the high alpine during summer

    • But they also inhabit coastal regions because of salmon and most river bottoms in the interior of the province, with the exception of the  Okanagan

Come On!

Let's find out about Black Bears first ... then we’ll investigate Grizzlies and see if we can figure out how to tell them apart.
