Hope bear sightings 2011
Bear Aware Mapping Initiative
***** Test Data only **** Not valid data ****** Testing purposes only***
Please be patient with us as I test out some new mapping procedures for our website. The goal is to eventually have a map that will be updated on a weekly basis - showing where bears and other wildlife have been sighted in close proximity to homes throughout the province. This data is generated directly from a database via a process called geo-coding and this process is not always 100% reliable. There may the odd 'outlying' piece of data so at best this map can be considered a representation of what our interaction with wildlife over the time period identified has been. The data represented here is also just an approximation of where the bears were seen and should be viewed as being accurate on a neighbourhood level.
You will want to zoom in on the map and then, if you click on the bear icon, you will see if there was an attractant listed for the bear. Icons are colour coded for the primary attractants. A category of "NOT APPLICABLE" means that the bear was sighted in an area but there was not a readily identifiable attractant.
Please note: Maps may be unavailable periodically as we update and deal with web server issues. Please be patient as we work through the technical issues.
