Bear Sightings *NEW*
Bear Aware Mapping Initiative
***** Please wait as data loads***
The Bear Aware Mapping Initiative is a pilot project that plots information gained from the Problem Wildlife Occurence Reports that are recorded by the Provincial RAPP line (1-877-952-7277).
This data is generated directly from a database via a process called geo-coding and gives us a 'reasonable' approximation of where human-wildlife interactions are occuring in our province. There may the odd 'outlying' piece of data (due to limitations with geo-coding) so, at best, this map can be considered a broad representation of human-wildlife interactions in the province.
Please remember that these reports are unverified and simply represent the data as presented to the RAPP line. Additionally, data points are represented as to the neighbourhood that the call was received from and may in fact represent a sighting outside of the caller's address.
Using the map:
Click on a species of interest and then on any number of attractants, and, if you have clicked on "Disable clustering", you will see the location of reports for that species. If you then click on one of the icons you will see when the sighting was reported and what the attractant noted was.
At present the data represents sightings from April 1 2012 to May 4 2012. Please note that not all sightings are mapped because incomplete or incorrect addreses my have prevented the system from geo-coding the results.
Please note: Maps may be unavailable periodically as we update and deal with web server issues. Please be patient as we work through the technical issues.
***** Data represents unverified reports only****
